Selectric Records artists Monday Morning are hitting the air waves, and hittin’ them HARD. “Wonder of It All,” from their debut album, “Fool’s Paradise,” took only 9 week
Jeopardy answer: Monday Morning Jeopardy question: What band can get a grown woman to jump up and down and play serious air guitar? Hey, I never claimed maturity, just good musical taste. And I know a solid rock band when I hear 'em. Monday Morning is a four able-bodied pieces: Derek and Kevin Stipe (vocals and bass, respectively), Justin Blythe (guitar), and Kent Rector (drums). Together they build a dense wall of sound that cannot fail to get you up outta your seat, shades of Stryper. "Fool's Paradise" is as solid spiritually as it is musically, rich with ambitious anthems that move you inside and out. A number of the songs address struggles of various kinds, sonically pushing you toward perseverance. The radio single "Sunshine" is not the peppy song the title suggests but a pounding call to look for the Light in the midst of the pain. "Next Year" cannot go without mention; it is seven minutes of sheer faith, laid in pure worship on a bed of gentle guitars and impassioned vocals. The effect is nothing short of stunning. A great mix of approaches, "Paradise" offers the raw grunge of "Breakaway" and the tender power ballad "Tonight." Topics covered include addiction, abuse, and racism. Impressive. Saving the best for last, the project closes out with two powerfully moving songs, "Stand" and "Tear Me From You," both challenging and uplifting. If you can stay in your seat after all this, you're a better woman than I. But I still know rockers when I hear 'em.
