Adam Cunningham took the long way home. His self-titled debut, releasing in March from Trackstar Recordworks, tells the whole gritty story, a Damascus Road soundtrack.
“Adam Cunningham” is thick with soul power, containing all of the fervor of the truly forgiven, the deeply converted. You may have already heard of this celebrated worship leader, recognizing his name from the 2006 Dove Award-winning album, “His Renown,” or the Dove nominated album “The Word Alive.” But this new album is all his own, straight-up adoration, rock-style, with a hint of country soul. Since it doesn’t release until March, I’ll tell you only a little about it now, covering the album’s first single, “You Are My God,” going to radio this month. I love the big sound this track opens with, gentle keys bouncing before the entrance of loud electric guitars, and then the focus moves clearly to Cunningham’s straightforward lyrics about praising God when it hurts. His gritty vocals stand up strong to the thundering guitar riffs, passion pouring from his determined praises. This song of commitment is right on time for the church today, and a great teaser for this rousing album from an honest and talented newcomer. Visit www.adamcunningham.com often for new details.
