He ain’t heavy, he’s Scottish worship leader Andrew Mitchell, and yes, he is my brother, spiritually speaking. “Your Kingdom Come” is his second solo album.
It contains ten original worship songs that lean toward the anthemic. Released in the UK in early 2005, it has since come out in Australia, South Africa, Ghana, Singapore and across Europe, a significant achievement in the crowded worship field. But there is a definite weighty quantity to this project. Although the songs promise vitality and are actually quite moving, some are threatened by over-production. Heavily orchestrated and atmospheric, a few of the early tracks especially seem somewhat muddy. I think a more stripped down approach would reveal their inner sparkle, as well as more of Mitchell's obvious passion and talents. I'd love to hear more of his impressive emotive powers on "Without Your Love" and I appreciate the lyrical strength of "You Lift Me Up." I suspect Andrew Mitchell brings more to the worship table than this album reveals, but his songwriting skills still make it worth the price of admission. You can listen to tracks and order the album here.
