26-year-old rocker Caitlin Evanson has had a violin in her hands since the age of four; the years of training pay off handsomely on her self-titled debut.
Her music professor father had her on the road to classical training, but all that came to a screeching halt once she heard her first Pearl Jam song, in this case, "Jeremy." The next Christmas she received an electric violin and amp and by 10th grade she was fronting her first garage band, Space Vomit. By college, she had morphed enough to front a folk/rock act, Late Tuesday. She says herself, she is wired to entertain. Many will find the melodic pop/rock sound of "Caitlin Evanson" entertaining, with its songs of life, relationships, and growing up pounded out by this focused energetic rocker and her mystery band (I was unable to find even a modicum of info on the players or the material). "You Still Shine" shows her potential, with the lovely violin opening, Caitlin's lofty vocals, and the buzzy support of her hard-rocking mystery band. The upbeat pop track "Perfect Mess" has some catchy hooks and Caitlin cuts loose with a raw growl or two. I enjoyed her most when she strayed from the pop sound to the harder meatier vocals spotted occasionally on "One More Time Around" and the standout track "Reality," rich with tasty instrumental accents. She shakes things up a bit with the innovative "Circus," an edgy track that pops with syncopated sound-bites. Her vocals stand up to the harder beats and fresh instrumentation, a real show-stopper. It'll be interesting to see what the talented Caitlin Evanson does next. Related Articles
