Chris Rice is celebrating his first mainstream top 20 hit with his latest single, “When Did You Fall (In Love With Me),” on the R&R Monitored Mainstream AC chart.

The song is the first single from artist's latest album "Amusing," which Rice released in hopes of reaching a broader and more mainstream audience. I reviewed this album shortly before its release, and loved it as you can see here:

"Chris Rice's new project with new label INO is a dual disc, with a CD audio side and a DVD enhanced stereo side, containing a number of interesting extras. But still, I admit, I approached "Amusing" with some trepidation. I'm not a big pop fan. Let me publicly repent here and now with all sincerity: I was wrong, wrong, wrong.

The radio single "Love Like Crazy" caught my attention with its timely message and its lyrical dexterity. But second song "When Did You Fall" just knocked me off my feet with its sweet and playful joyfulness. And I'm not usually a girl who goes for sweet. There's just something about this Chris Rice...... but you probably already knew that. I know, I know, I'm very late to the party.

Maybe it's the Eleanor Rigby feel that runs through a number of these pop tunes (take note of the delightful "The Final Move"). Or maybe it's just the contagious joy.... or the melodic changes, the tight harmonies.... possibly the whimsical turn that runs below the surface of every song. I've always been a sucker for whimsy. What can I say? I'm reformed, embracing the Chris Rice school of refreshing optimism, ashamed of my former folly. One or two of these songs are still a bit poppy for me ("Lemonade") but there are more than enough special songs to win me over, including the dreamy "I See the Moon" and "Amusing." Veritable flights of fancy, these are joyrides you don't want to miss. I'm tellin' ya, I'm a true convert, ready to sign zee papers."

By the way, I just checked the charts: Chris is now at No. 16.
