Texas indie rocker David Frush has a heart to worship, that much is clear. The melodic rockers of “This Is My Story” will move you closer to the throne.

The cover art of "This Is My Story" shows Frush's eyes peering over the top of the book he's holding outstretched toward the camera, a book entitled, interestingly, "This Is My Story," by David Frush. I mention this because it so visually displays the album's focus: straight-forward in-your-face vertical worship. Buzzy opening rocker "Here Is Love" announces the intentions of Frush, to draw your attention above. And he certainly got my full attention with second track, the piano-driven "Song of Creation," its hooky charms highlighted by warm background vocals and Frush's own passionate delivery.

Frush has assembled a strong team, among them the scene-stealing Brady Redwine, who makes his presence strongly felt on several tracks, including the upbeat "All I Know," enriched by his pretty mandolin-picking and humming B3. The strong suit of Frush himself lies in his passion for his message, presented powerfully on the dramatic "Wait," acknowledging the Lord's sovereignty and reflecting His majesty in the lovely strings. A number of Frush's beautifully-written songs please with their melodic changes ("Your Mercy Falls" and "Prodigal Son"), but his music is impressive when subdued as well (the quietly acoustic and deeply worshipful "Amazing Grace/Hallelujah" and the title track). I appreciate the honesty of "Speak To Me," detailing the soul's struggle with doubt, its tight strings capturing the desperation of the dark night. The children's choir adds much to "Eyes of a Child," and the project closes very strongly with the moving piano ballad, "Here Am I." If "This Is My Story" is any indication, the Lord will put the worship of David Frush to good use.
