David Glenn Turn to You, Christian rock worship
David Glenn's "Turn to You" is offered "as a follow up to 2004's "Not About Me," but it seems to me that Glenn crammed ten years into the past two years of developing.

“Not About Me” is certainly decent, and well past that, with its mix of modern worship, hard rockers, and acoustic tracks. I don’t mean to disparage it in any way. Produced by former NewSong member Scotty Wilbanks, the disc offers up several noteworthy songs, including rocker “Stand Up,” which closes out on a nice blues jam, and “Bread of Life” contains moments of sheer beauty. Oh, those sweet background vocals! I liked Wilbank’s simmering Wurlitzer on the title track, and its gritty feel.

But the four tracks of “Turn to You” are far advanced sonically. Glenn’s writing is more textured, deeply melodic, and the instrumentation is on a different level completely. The title track kicks off with an atmospheric take on worship, thick instrumentation and programming echoing the sweet melody line. I love the plea for change on “To Be Love,” the tightly thrashing rhythm section working hard beneath Glenn’s passionate vocals. The airy opening of “Like the Angels” gradually amps up into thick exuberance, spilling Glenn’s passion lavishly. The track is repeated, with the addition of a choir, and the EP is over, way too soon. I don’t know what the story is behind the abbreviated project, but I know I could stand to hear a lot more of David Glenn’s rich sound. Check out his website for more information, or just to hound him for more songs.
