David Klinkenberg: The Carol of Emmanuel, Christian Christmas music
Violin virtuoso David Klinkenberg has partnered with Family Christian stores to release "The Carol of Emmanuel: Featuring Jim Brickman & Friends," a warm Christmas album.

I don’t pretend to know a great deal about classical music, or even the violin for that matter, but I knows what I likes. And I know enough to know that David Klinkenberg is the real deal, a passionate God-lover with sizzling violin chops. His “The Carol of Emmanuel” offers ten well-produced tracks of classic Christmas songs interpreted by talented creative master musicians.

The inventive arrangement of opener “What Child Is This” let you know immediately that “The Carol of Emmanuel” is something special. Klinkenberg’s violin and Matt Burnett’s piano wander freely and joyously around the classic melody line, making this an exciting and stirring rendition. Klinkenberg’s violin is equally blissful on “Do You Hear What I Hear,” over Burnett’s rich piano. Klinkenberg chooses a straightforward approach for “O Night Divine,” rendering a lush and moving interpretation.

Klinkenberg is touring with Jim Brickman’s Christmas show, and together they offer the majestic “Winter Waltz.” This song is also included on Brickman’s “Escape.” The beauty of this special track lies in its feel of intimacy, even through its moments of grandeur.

The familiar measures of “Jesu Joy” open quietly, but don’t get too comfortable. Klinkenberg turns things upside down with an outburst of regal drums, blistering violin and joyous fervor. The standout tune moves back and forth a few times between stately calm and uproarious exuberance before the violin and cello finally duel it out in a big finish. Believe me when I tell you a good time was had by all.

Don’t let your fear of classical keep you away from this lively and wonderful Christmas project, “The Carol of Emmanuel,” from the effervescent David Klinkenberg.
