DecembeRadio’s debut on Slanted Records’ is petal-to-the-metal hook-heavy hard rock, and they’re as in your face with their faith as they are with their sound. Glorious.
Roaring out of the West Virginia hills, the four band members (Josh Reedy (lead vox, bass), Brian Bunn (lead guitar, vox), Eric Miker (guitar, vox), and Boone Daughdrill (drums) of DecembeRadio make no apologies for either their old school classic rock sound or their bold proclamations of faith. And none are needed, for these guys are bringing Christian rock back to its roots with their pounding talent and exuberant energy.
Their straightforward approach shows up immediately in opener "Can't Hide," grabbing you by the throat with thundering guitars and blunt lyrics attacking addiction's soul-thievery. "Dangerous" is on its heels with more of the delightful same, its driving guitars and ripping vocals sounding the battle call against complacency, right on time. The catchy "Love Found Me" is a neck-bobber with solid southern flair, a real feel good track, one of several. "Greed" switches up slightly, moody vocals and unexpected harmonies; they can pull 'em out when they want 'em. Placed smack in the middle of the list is the melodic "Drifter," standing out strongly with its challenging lyrics and sweet slide guitar. The funk guitar of "Live and Breathe" only adds to the exhilaration level, with joyous lyrics delivered breathlessly and passionately. DecembeRadio continues to mix things up with the prog feel of "Alright" and the hard-driving "Razor." "Table" is an up-tempo masterpiece of expression, sparkling and slamming at once through a looming bass line and insistent lyrics. If you're still breathing, listen closely to the worshipful "Least of These," a percolating unashamed display of humble adoration.
DecembeRadio has gotten a lot of buzz in recent months; their debut effectively justifies all the attention. With any luck, they'll be around for a long time.
