Hard rockers Decyfer Down have stirred up the Christian music scene since the June release of "End of Grey," their aptly titled paean of zealous God-love and commitment.
"End of Grey" read like a manifesto of straight-forward God-living and their great sound made their message all that much more appealing (See Suite review here). Our recent conversation with drummer Josh Oliver only revealed the authenticity of their passion. It sounds like God used music and the band to draw you back to Himself. How do you now make sure the focus stays on Him first? Is that a challenge for you?It is always a challenge to put away your selfish pride and your own ambitions. We constantly are searching after Gods plan and will for our life. There is always a process of running towards Him. I hear you about needing a fresh wind in our perspective on how to do church! Do you have any wisdom gained from your experiences that might serve as a word of encouragement or correction to the church at large? My encouragement would be that we need to continue to chase after what God has called us individually to do, and for us to operate in the ministry that he has gifted us to do. My word of caution would be to not chase after other people's ministry or calling cause then we develop a network of copycats. Out here on the road I see a lot of churches that look at other churches and think "Hummm . . . we need that new system" and at times they look right past the hurting. We need to support and encourage each other, as we {as the Body} continue to search after God's Heart. How can we be most helpful to young people caught up in the drug scene today?Give them an image of Hope and love, which is found in Jesus Christ. I so admire Decyfer Down's focus on hard-core truth. Why do you think it's so hard for believers to be honest with each other about their struggles? Insecurities is the one of the main struggles that we have to fight. It seems we are always trying to give the appearance that everything is ok. We need to allow each other to see our hurt and struggles and weaknesses so that we can encourage and support each other and not condemn each other. If we condemn each other in our moment of weakness then the pruning process that God is putting us through will be immediately cut down. We need to hold each other accountable in love. I gather one of the guys laid down an exterminator job to do this gig? Is that the worst job you've had?I actually enjoyed that job, it pays pretty well. Definitely one of the worst jobs I had was roofing. Favorite super-power if you could have any?To be able to fly at the speed sound so in off time I could spend it with my loved ones. Well said, Josh. For more on these hard rockin' turth-tellers, visit their website.
