After listening to "You Alone," the Echoing Angels debut album releasing on January 30 from INO Records, we were eager to talk with its innovative creators.
Echoing Angels is made up of vocalist Chris Peevey, drummer Jon Poole, Bassist Josh Armour, and guitarists Shannon Cochran and Jared Lee. It was Peevey, Armour and Poole who answered our questions about the music that had made such a strong impression on us. (Read complete Suite review here) SUITE: Your songs seem painstakingly crafted and executed. Do you generally begin with the melody or lyrics? Who are the primary writers or do you work your way through the writing process as a band? CHRIS PEEVEY: I do most of the lyrics and melodies. Every song is different but I find myself with some sort of melody in my head (most of the time it’s the chorus) and then go from there. SUITE: You also cover a wide range of style and tempos. Do you favor one direction over another musically? JON POOLE: As far as tempos and styles, I think we like to have it all. On this project, there is a rollercoaster effect. We have the worship ballads, the mid-tempo pop rock songs, and we have the rock and roll songs that really translate great live. That is pretty much how our live show is. We will come right out of the gate bringin' the noise, and getting the audience "crunk". Then, three quarters of the way in to the set, we will go in to a worship set. It's really amazing to watch Peevey. He can be the most amazing front man, then totally transform into a captivating worship leader. In this worship set, we will do anything from a vibe thing where it is somewhat unplugged, to the sing-a-longs that everyone knows and loves. SUITE: Did you have any specific message in mind with this first album? CHRIS PEEVEY: Life is full of mountains and valleys and we seem to find ourselves at some point in our lives stumbling or falling down, but God is the God of second chances. Through those second chances we should be there for each other and remember how God is always there bringing us back to life. SUITE: I know you are in the process in terms of putting a new record out. What aspect has been most exciting for you? What have you found the most surprising? JOSH ARMOUR: As far as putting out a new record, I don't think we knew really what to expect. We were stuck in a learning process which pulled us in so many different directions. We were challenged to get outside if our comfort zone which is exactly what we are called by God to do everyday. We as Christians are not supposed to be in the most easy situations all the time. We have to get outside our shell and be exposed. That's what this record has taught us more than anything. SUITE: What other band would you love to be in for a day? JOSH ARMOUR: As for what band I would love to be in for a day I would have to say Keith Urban. His band live is one of the most incredible bands I have ever seen live. Keith is an amazing guitarist and I would love to share the stage with him. For more information on Echoing Angels or "You Alone," their new album streeting Jan. 30, visit their website.
