The idea behind the rootsy compilation album, "Glory Revealed," is to draw listeners into the Word, enabling them to find God's glory revealed in His Word.
A tall but noble task in this frenetic day, but if warmth, well-crafted songs, and intelligent production have anything to do with it, “Glory Revealed” should prove effective. The concept was birthed through the friendship between Mac Powell (Third Day frontman) and David Nassar (speaker/author/minister), and resulted in a multi-artist worship project which features straight Scripture lyrics and an Americana acoustic set of ten original songs. Well produced by Third Day's Mac Powell, “Glory Revealed” features a mix of popular and less well-known artists, interestingly paired, with each other and with for the most familiar Scripture passages. It is the passages chosen that add to the project’s rich luster, the artists’ interpretation often bringing the verse alive. Hyper Static Union's Shawn Lewis bravely takes on the “downcast soul” verses of Psalm 43:4 on “Altar of God,” facing them head on over a bed of rich strings. This honest approach gives the passage a sheen of faith, leaving the listener greatly uplifted by track’s end. Candy Pearson-Shelton works the same kind of magic on the title track, covering Isaiah 40:3-5. As the twangy song progresses, her pure vocals swell with the passion of a hard-won faith, moving into an exuberance that cannot fail to touch the listener. She teams with Mac Powell for “Restore to Me,” a powerfully fervent take on the familiar, even haunting passage that is Psalm 51:9-12. Other standout tracks include opener “He Will Rejoice,” Trevor Morgan’s vocals weaving through Bethany Dick’s flawless, as always, fiddle. Bouncy and hopeful, Shawn Lewis’ “Waters Gone By” shines, as does the shimmering “To The Only God,” Crowder and the Shanes serving up the tightest of harmonies. Michael W. Smith will surprise you with his warmth on “Come Worship the King,” but really, there is no track of these ten that will fail to move you. Hopefully, that movement will be in the direction of the Word, and the spectacular “Glory Revealed” contributors will have another reason to rejoice.
