Hope's Call is a Southern Gospel trio made up, believe it or not, of Donna Beauvais, her daughter Jessica, and Jessica's husband, Eddie Harrison.
Donna’s husband, Paul Beauvais, travels with them as road manager and sound technician, but you gotta wonder about the road trips, right? I guess they get a lot of kidding about that, but musically anyway, they come across as a well-oiled machine. And they must: they travel fulltime performing in churches, conferences and with missions groups. From their website, it looks like “Live to Love” is their sixth album, containing thirteen tracks of classic Southern Gospel sound. Opener “He Lives to Love,” with its sweet background vocals and big sound, lets you know immediately that this is inspirational music, written with the church in mind. Which is not to say it’s not lively; check out the bouncy, upbeat “So Glad It Rained,” with its thick bass chords, the female lead kicking out, country-style. The bouncy strings of “He Still Does” and the tight harmonies and heavy orchestration of “In Jesus’ Name” are classic inspirational touches. It is a genre known for dramatic presentation, found here on the string-rich “Love’s Call,” a moving interpretation of Gomer’s story, and “Too Far Away,” an encourager to all who worry they’ve moved past God’s reach. Eddie Harrison’s vocals are rich and strong throughout, featured nicely on “Never Been Broken.” But the track I most enjoyed is “Good News Bad” for its exuberant bass line and the big band feel. If you’re a Southern Gospel fan, mark your calendar for January 23, the release date for “Live to Love,” from Hope's Call and Daywind Records.
