Jeanne T. Arrigo Favorite Hymns Live CD Review2-Disk Set Collective Tracks including Best-Loved Sacred Songs
Review of Jean T. Arrigo's favorite hymns in one double CD album collection, including How Great Thou Art and God's Eye is on the Sparrow.
"Favorite Hymns Live!" is the latest 2-disk set CD offering of Jeanne T. Arrigo, a Chicago-based American pop-folk singer/songwriter and stage performer. It is a follow-up to her successful 2005 "The Journey's About to Begin." Favorite Hymns and Jean T. ArrigoThe one double CD album includes favorite hymns and spirituals weaved into Christian worship through the ages. It also includes Jeanne Arrigo's original unrecorded song "I am Thankful." The collection is a concert recorded live in a church setting where Jeanne Arrigo regularly worships and sings in the choir. Being a live recording, it becomes more enjoyable and "participative" as the listener is made to feel physically present. Jeanne T. Arrigo, the vocalist, and her talented team of musicians, come together to bring out their performance. Being a live concert, Arrigo is more spontaneous with occasional ad-lib between singing, making the hymns more enjoyable at the same time retaining sacredness. Hymns Tracking SelectionsThe sequence selection of the repertoire is delicately chosen. The strength and warmth of Arrigo's blended pop/folk singing style captures the timeless beauty of these favorite hymns. The collection starts with the exuberant praise and adoration classics "I Sing the Mighty Power of God," "God Reigns O'er All the Earth" and "For the Beauty of the Earth." "Praise to the Living God" is rightfully placed before the last track. What follows on the traditional hymns are the more solemn and reflective songs like "Be Thou My Vision" and that popular "God's Eye is on the Sparrow." In hymns of thanksgiving, Arrigo included "For the Fruit of All Creation" and her own written and composed "I am Thankful." The all-time loved hymns include the most inspiring and uplifting "How Great Thou Art," "Precious Lord, Take My Hand" and "It is Well with my Soul." Arrigo's dynamic vocal quality as a pop/folk singer blends perfectly with the various instruments that provide a lively musical support, bringing out her melodic folk singing voice. The various musicians never drown her, rather, accompanies her with a kind of intimacy that brings out the poignancy in the sacred hymns that Arrigo shares. The interplay of instruments that back her up work well with each particular song, for instance, the piano and guitar, or the fiddle and mandolin. Production and ArrangementsJean Arrigo teams up with multi-talented musicians such as her brother, Jeff Arrigo (guest guitarist, vocalist, and harmonica player); Ben Harris (mandolin, guitar, ukulele, piano, vocals); Billy Oh (fiddle, vocals), and Shaun Whitley (string bass, violin, guitar, vocals); Jim O'Donnell (guitar and banjo); Roxie Imam (clarinet and recorder); and Elaine Clemens (guest pianist.) For anyone looking to hear some of his/her favorite and uplifting hymns and spirituals, Jeanne T. Arrigo's 2-disk set CD live concert recording shares her own unique way at enjoying music. Jeanne T.
