Singer/songwriter JJ Heller recently spent time ministering to women at Remuda Ranch during chapel services held at the renowned eating disorder treatment facility.
Heller's desire to help was sparked by a phone call she received late last year informing her that a friend was struggling with an eating disorder. "A week or so before last Christmas, my husband, Dave, and I received a phone call from our friend informing us that her 17-year-old daughter, Kati, had just been admitted into a treatment center for women with eating disorders," Heller remembers. "She said that because of her disorder, Kati had become extremely depressed and desperate, and that's why they felt they needed to take more drastic measures to get her help. I was completely shocked by this news because Kati appeared to have everything together. She was smart, talented and beautiful, and yet she believed the lie that she could never measure up." "Fortunately, she had been admitted as a patient at Remuda, where she later gave her life to Christ," continues Heller. "I wrote "All The Beauty," a song featured on my new album "Only Love Remains," to remind her that God's love for her is big enough to overcome the lies of hopelessness that she was telling herself." "It was such a privilege to share that song with the women at Remuda Ranch," comments Heller. "I was amazed to catch a glimpse of the transforming work that Christ is doing in their hearts and lives." The programs and settings at Remuda Ranch are distinctively different from the traditional, institutional format offered by hospitals and clinics. Remuda's programs are geared toward overcoming the habitual response patterns of an eating disorder and uncovering the issues at the core of the illness. Additional information about Remuda Ranch is available at their website. "Only Love Remains" is scheduled to release on Nov. 14 on Stone Table Records, helmed by Grammy-winning producer Mitch Dane and recorded at Nashville's famed Sputnik Sound studio. In addition to the formidable vocal and guitar skills of JJ and her husband Dave, the roster of players on this project includes a veritable Who's Who of Nashville's first call session players, including Bryan Sutton on mandolin, guitar and banjo, David Henry on cello, Ben Shive on piano, Andy Hubbard on drums and Aaron Sands on bass. Jeremy Casella and Andrew Osenga join Heller on guitars and backing vocals. See Suite review of "Only Love Remains" here. For more information on JJ Heller and her music, check out her website.
