It’s quickly apparent after one listen to June Rochelle’s new album “Changing Places” why she was just named “Female Vocalist of the Year” at the En Sound Music Awards.
June Rochelle brings a warmth to these fourteen tracks from the Vision Entertainment Media Group. Most of them offer encouragement and positivity, laying down some serious groove in the process. Her vocals move between the alto and soprano range, and she puts out her own spin on various covers too, well-known or not. She is unhurried and confident on the classic "His Eye is on the Sparrow" and equally brave with Marvin Gayes' "What's Going On." When it's time to shake things up, she's there, calling listeners out to "make a Soul Train" on the sly "Just Because I'm Saved." As Rochelle puts it, "Just because I'm sanctified don't mean I can't get my groove on." Sho 'nuf. And if you think she can't, check out the teched out, fiercely funkified "Stomp Shaker." That's what I'm talking about. Rochelle closes things down powerfully with the crooner "His Name is Love," showcasing both her considerable vocal prowess and her real motivation: it's the Lord she's thanking and singing to, throughout "Changing Places." And we know that's a reward in itself, right?
