Kathleen Carnali's latest, "All to You: Live Worship," is very ministry-oriented. Her heart for the Lord overflows in these dramatic piano-driven worship songs.
The album’s artwork says it all: Carnali is posed in a posture of worship, gazing heavenward from the floor of the sanctuary. The eight songs of “All to You” are deeply worshipful, free-flowing adoration over rich orchestration. The song list moves seamlessly through a journey of devotion, from the opening hushed vocals of “Be Glad,” climbing into the strong passion of “Let Your Anointing Fall,” and climaxing in the violin-led veneration of “Oh God,” a track reminiscent of Jason Upton’s worship jams. There are those who will find some of Carnali’s repetitive refrains overdone; others will be led into the Throne Room by her fiery example. This is what I mean by ministry-oriented music. You won’t listen to “All to You” for its musical beauty as much as its power to aid your own worship journey. Speaking strictly musically, there is a great deal of repetition in Carnali’s arrangements. But spiritually speaking, as a devotional aid or a backdrop for your own worship, these songs have much to offer. “Fire” is a twelve-minute free-flowing plea for the hand of God to cleanse. “Whom the Son Sets Free” is a lovely dance between Carnali’s piano and the able violin of Rebecca Loomis, affirming our freedom in Christ. The title track closes out the project with a simple straightforward beauty, Carnali’s vocals rich and clear in praise to the end. “All to You: Live Worship” was not written for the casual listener, but many worshippers will enjoy her dramatic, lustrous approach to adoration.
