Kelly Price's "This is Who I Am," releasing Oct. 24 from Zomba Records, was recorded live before the 1,500 person congregation of her former home church in Long Island.
Kelly Price wrote, produced, and arranged the project, inviting a roster of stellar guests to join her on “This is Who I Am.” She proclaims her bold intentions right out of the gate, her warm tones oozing like hot melted butter from the opening title track. She goes deep again and shares stories of her youth on the following track, the personal “Heaven’s Best.” Price shares a lot of her heart and her story on these songs (the intimate “The Warning” and the first single, the soulful “Healing”). But she also knows how to cut loose and let the joy flow too (the poppin’ crowd-pleaser “Get Up”). The tight arrangements of her duet with Joe Ligon give her a chance to soar vocally, and her classic gospel turn with gospel favorite Donnie McClurkin just sizzles. The project closes out powerfully on the dramatic piano-driven “Nobody But Jesus,” and as usual Vanessa Bell Armstrong tears it up in her indomitable style, leaving you deeply satisfied with Kelly Price’s newest, “This is Who I Am.” If you like Kelly Price's smooth vocal stylings, you may enjoy June Rochelle's "Changing Places" or "Immeasurable" from Wayburn Dean.
