Krystal Meyers comes back strong with sophomore album “Dying for a Heart,” with all the same precocious excellence, strength and heart we saw the first time around.

In the past year, this petite whirlwind graduated from high school, received a Dove nomination, scored a hit album, showed up on magazine covers and oh yeah, took over Japan. Krystal Meyers is big in Japan (I love saying that). But in the midst of all that, she found time to lay down ten melodious tracks of truth-ridden rock. "Dying for a Heart" is deeply satisfying and potent, especially from this 17-year old dynamo.

Immediately apparent in the first thundering guitar riff of opener "Collide," a pounding up-tempo rocker, is the high caliber of musicianship. Muscular drums support thick guitar chords, illuminating producer Ian Eskelin's dead-on lyrics powerfully. Meyer's own stellar vocals announce her focus on truth and excellence, not even slightly straining over the thunderous wall of sound. This outstanding opener is followed by the energetic throbber "Live," and the melodious "The Beauty of Grace." Meyers is letting her faith shine freely on this album; rather than shyly apologizing for her outspoken beliefs, she challenges listeners to keep it real. Encourager "The Beauty" is uplifting and comforting, its message especially powerful considering the young people who so desperately need to hear it. Krystal Meyers serves her generation mightily, and seems more than equal to the task.

The compelling slammer "The Situation" will get a lot of attention, and rightfully so, with its commanding lyrics and catchy hook. Well thought out, the lyrics examine both male and female perspectives on premarital sex, and points to Christ as both the way of escape and the source of strength. Meyer's lyrics have much to do with the album's strengths; she trusts the truth to convict, and in this the talented song-writer shows an uncanny wisdom for her age.

Other standouts include the clever "Only You Make Me Happy," an insightful challenge to the world of hype we inhabit and to our own responsibility as consumers/believers. Again, keepin' it real, the power of Krystal. I loved the blistering "Stand and Scream," a brawny declaration of commitment. But it is closer "Hallelujah" that really takes your breath away. Meyer's clear vocals pierce the layered guitars, laying down deeply worshipful lyrics of glory: "Heaven has the pleasure of having You here/ Nothing can measure the love that You share/ Angels sing welcome home/ welcome home."

With "Dying for a Heart," Krystal Meyers shows herself worthy to hold the banner high for her generation, and for others as well. Sublime and adept, she's sure to be big in America as well ( I just LOVE saying it!). Make a beeline for "Dying for a Heart" when it releases September 19th.
