LA Symphony's Disappear Here

LA Symphony, LA Symphony
LA Symphony’s long-awaited “Disappear Here” starts slow but builds nicely, burning its way through 14 tracks of message-driven, beat-laden hip-hop.

It's got something for everybody: traditional hip-hop tunes "Less Than Zero" and "Grand Piano", club music "Dance Like" and "Funky Music," and tongue-twister "Rise." Of special note: the tongue-in-cheek closer "Don't Call Me" goofing on some of the weirdness of celebrity, complete with Valley-girl accents. Well-produced, the beats are crisp, the vocals clear and understandable. The multi-ethnic crew includes FLYNN, Sharlok Poems, Joey the Jerk, UNO Mas, and Cookbook, joined at points by guest artists Evidence (Dialated Peoples), Sup the Chemist, DJ Rhetmattic, and Great Jasn. The guys held on through years of corporate wars and even some serious illness (UNO Mas suffered through a grim bout with Guillain Barr Syndrome), but they're back in strong form.

Standout tracks include "C'est La Vie," an honest look at life on the road and its impact on both the artists and their loved ones. Grammy-nominated singer Tonex lends his considerable vocal chops to this intense song. The beats of "Timeless" are off the hook, and "Pops Song" will bring you to your knees with its heartfelt truths about the overwhelming power of a good father:

Nobody on the planet can do your job/ No better combination than you and Mom/ When it's right, it's right/When it's wrong, it's wrong/ A house ain't a home when daddy's gone

LA Symphony, welcome back and thanks for overcoming.
