Levi Lais, Levi Lais
Levi Lais was eight years old the first time he heard God tell him that He loved him, and he never got over it. “Light My Skies” is the happy result.

Those first intimate moments in his bedtime prayers led Lais on a search for a way to put that love to good use. He found it in a junior high "worship team class." They didn't have those in my school, but God was clearly laying out a path and a calling for young Levi, a path he has not strayed from yet. The training continued and Lais developed into a skilled and soulful troubadour who is not afraid to reveal the depths of his heart in order to complete his mission. "Light My Skies" is an acoustic delight, full of soft and subtle tunes that will surprise you with their strength. The gentle tones of Lais' vocals underscore the delicate instrumentation. Lais' guitar and mandolin is accompanied by co-producer Chris Duffey's dulcimer and electric strings and Ken Walker's interesting percussive choices, also smooth and subtle.

This talented combination might be a little too light were it not for the stalwart lyrics of these honest and brave songs. Lais is unashamedly passionate and honest in expressing his deep neediness for God, and equally open about his emotional need in the tender love song "I Miss You." It takes a lot of strength to be this vulnerable. Standout tracks "Why Do I" powerfully explores the familiar human struggle of Romans 7 and the richly layered "Rest" evokes the occasional weariness of soul we all experience. Creative time changes, bravely truthful lyrics, and pristine instrumentation save this project from the possible downside of a ballad-heavy CD. Lais, unashamed and unafraid, is still showing the love.
