Making of an Indie Artist, Pt 4More With Lindsey Kane
Lindsey Kane winds up the "Making of an Indie Artist" series by tying up the spiritual and the practical elements for us, reminding us of Who it's really all about.
Click here to go back to Part 3, an in-depth look at the particulars of Lindsey's path to Indie-dom, where every "step is ordered by the Lord." And now, Lindsey closes up the series with some final thoughts: So as you can see, it has been quite a process! But in all of these things, God was in charge of everything. He orchestrated every last detail. He put the people in my path and showed me the way in which to go. At this present moment I continue to write new songs as the Lord leads me, I continue to travel full-time spreading the message of Christ through music, teaching, and humor, and I get to make a living doing it! It’s been absolutely fabulous! The road has been long and delicate, but God has been in control of every twist and turn. So, to bring it all home and hopefully tie this mass of commentary into a nice little bow, I will say this: the first step after hearing the call is to step out of the boat. That means different things for everyone. For me, it simply meant to surrender my life to the call, finish school, and pursue my calling full-time after graduation, trusting that God would provide for my needs and bless my obedience. Waiting is key to answering the call into full-time ministry. And no matter how scary or unsure it gets, we must continue to focus on Christ and His voice leading us. We must step out into those deep, uncharted waters and keep our eyes fixed on our Savior and Lord. We must continue to stay in the Word to receive affirmation of who we are and whose we are. We must stay connected to Christ through prayer. We must abide to the vine so that we may bear much fruit. Preparation is key. Before stepping out into full-time ministry, we must let the Lord prepare us. Though I wanted to go into the ministry as soon as I heard the call, I had to wait until I finished college. And this was a blessing in disguise. Though it was hard for me to sit through classes that meant nothing for my ministry, I am so glad I did. Because it was during that time in the waiting room that God prepared me for ministry. And He continues to prepare me daily for the tasks ahead. It’s all about His timing and His equipping. Ajith Fernando wrote in his book “Jesus Driven Ministry,” which is quickly becoming a favorite of mine: “our greatest qualification for the ministry is the mercy of God.” We must never forget how and why we are called. It is by His mercy. Despite our unworthiness, He has called us into salvation and into full-time ministry, whether that is vocationally or not. It is important to realize that every Christian should be in full-time ministry, because being an ambassador for Christ means that you are ministering full-time. Suite thanks Lindsey Kane for her generosity and her encouraging spirit. We both hope that the "Making of an Indie Artist" series brings hope to those who have the same calling, and understanding and appreciation to those who listen to indie music. Most of all, may the series remind us of Who every note is lifted to always. Write in with your thoughts and questions.
