Micah Stampley has more than just a smooth vocal style and fresh gospel chops. He's got the heart for ministry that should always go with it.
As much as we dug the fresh sound of "Fresh Wind," Stampley's exciting new album, we wanted just as much to know about his calling. Micah Stampley was more than willing to share with Suite about both topics. Suite: Micah, I enjoyed the wide range of “Fresh Wind,” from full-on praise, to mellow worship, to fiery warfare. I know we use all of our emotions in our relationship to God, but speaking musically, is there one style that really flows especially naturally for you? Micah: It’s kind of hard for me to pin point one particular style as being my “natural” element. I’ve learned so many different types of styles and in the process of learning those styles, I’ve become one with them all. My prayer has been that my ministry would reach the heart of the masses, every nationality, race, creed and tongue. I believe as long as I remain faithful to God and with the gifts He has so graciously given me, in addition to God’s anointing, I’ll be able to have the desires of my heart. Suite: “No Compromise” contains a lot of strong teaching within its hearty framework, and that’s not something you find in much of our music. Is that intentional, flowing from your pastor’s heart? Do you intentionally include music from a warfare perspective on “Fresh Wind”? Micah: I write from the issues of my heart. I’ve seen a lot of downfalls within the church and I want to do my part in encouraging everyone to keep the heart of our Father daily as a preventative medicine. Prophetically speaking, it’s time for someone to speak out about the state that the body of Christ is in. Like millions of other people I too am flawed. However, every single day I find myself repenting just to keep my life in order with my Creator. Some may say that I’m paranoid or fanatical, but I’m willing to take those hits in exchange for holiness and righteousness. Suite: I know that you’ve been in ministry for most of your life. Could you share a bit about what your calling involves in terms of your music? Micah: You called me a “pastor” in your last question and it’s not the first time someone has called me that. With that being said, I’ve noticed that God has taken my ministry into the office of a pastor; however, it’s been to the Levites “musicians and singers”. I minister and mentor musicians and singers all over the world and it’s really refreshing to know that God sees enough in me to put me in the lives of so many of His sons and daughters. I don’t take that for granted! So, I guess I am sort of a pastor, huh? Suite: You wrote much of “Fresh Wind” either by yourself or with your wife and partner Heidi. What were your intentions with this project? What is the main message of the album? Micah: You know, it’s been a task for me as a praise and worship leader to teach people how to appreciate our Lord and King, especially when you have only 10 to 15 minutes to do it at the local church. My intensions are to teach and motivate the people to praise and worship God, show them how to do it according to the Bible and pray that a fire and love for it will be ignited within them. Our (Heidi and I) message is that we get back to the original state in which we were created. Having that closeness with God and loving Him for who He is and not so much of what we can get from Him. There’s nothing that my 5 beautiful children can’t get from me, as long as it doesn’t hurt them of course, if they just show me unconditional love. Suite: You’ve caused quite a stir in the gospel world, and quickly. What new projects are on the horizon that your fans need to know about? Micah: Well, this Friday, November 10, I’ll be doing a live concert in Orlando, FL at Faith World Church with Pastor Clint Brown. Everybody can watch it live online by going to their website. We’re going to have a great time and I’d like to invite the entire WORLD to log on and help us worship our Father; no matter where you are you can be a part of this event!
