Essential Records and Flicker Records release "oseven: The Year's Best Christian Rock Hits," the debut installment of their new rock series, this week.
Featuring brand new songs from today’s premiere rock artists, the project includes music by Pillar, Jars of Clay, Krystal Meyers, Red, eleventyseven, Kids in the Way, Day of Fire, Leeland, nevertheless, Fireflight, Flatfoot 56 and Until June, among others. The abovementioned artists collectively represent more than six million records sold. “We’ve had a lot of requests for a project that brings together the best in Christian rock music today,” says Troy Vest, vice president of Flicker Records. “By combining the talents of Essential Records and Flicker Records artists, we were able to offer the cutting-edge consumer everything they could want all on one CD.” Doug Van Pelt, editor of HMMagazine and an authority on rock music, comments “Compilation albums serve multiple important functions: they introduce listeners to a particular music scene, pull together a top-notch song collection and give people a good idea of a label’s roster. This compilation does all that, showing perhaps why rock music has (and always will) rule in the music world!” Jay Swartzendruber, editor of CCM Magazine, adds “Rock compilations like “oseven” acknowledge the evolving tastes of today’s Christian music fan. And the more labels who specialize in rock can partner together the way Essential and Flicker have here, the better. We’ve seen the exposure the WoW Worship and WoW Gospel compilations have brought those two genres and, hopefully, oseven is a sign of things to come.”
