Remembering Keith GreenThe Live Experience and Greatest Hits Remind Us Of His LegacyKeith Green was a key artist in the development of Christian music and new CD packages "The Live Experience" and "Greatest Hits" clearly show why he is still admired.
Within Christian music, Keith Green is among the most memorable and controversial artists. An outspoken young man - he did everything from exhort fans to live consistent lives to distribute an album for free – he had his life cut short in a plane crash in 1983 at the age of 28. The new releases The Live Experience, in a single disc version and a Special Edition set that includes an additional four hour DVD, and Greatest Hits kick off a two-year campaign by the Legacy Project to use the 25th anniversary of that tragic event to promote the music and ministry of Keith Green. More Than Just The Music of Keith GreenThe Legacy Project is a joint venture of Keith Green’s widow Melody Green (and family and friends) and Sparrow Record, the label that released his records. Its aim is to introduce the incomparable gifts of Keith Green to a new generation while reminding older fans how much of an impact Keith Green made upon their faith. And, the Legacy Project grew out of Last Days Ministries, the organization started by Keith and Melody Green to implement evangelical endeavors and to encourage Christians to bring their faith into all aspects of their lives. Last Days Ministries, which is still headed by Melody Green today, usually uses the music of Keith Green as just a starting point to launch into other initiatives such as fighting against abortion and leading American Christians to serve in the international mission field. However, with the release of The Live Experience and Greatest Hits Keith Green and his music and his live performances and his teachings and his exhortations are of primary focus to Last Days Ministries. Compiling The Keith Green LegacyThe Live Experience highlights the raw, dynamic stage performances that definitive to who Keith Green was an artist and as a Christian man. His “band” often consisted of just Keith Green and a piano but his talent, passion and heartfelt exhortations combined to create a powerful experience where music was but one aspect. In order to more fully present this side of Keith Green, Melody Green provided Sparrow Records with a treasure trove of never before released live recordings that were painstakingly remastered to create The Live Experience. Along with the actual recordings the Special Edition package adds a four-hour DVD with content such as rare TV appearances, archival festival performances and little seen concert footage. A one hour documentary on Keith Green “Your Love Broke Through” is also included. Greatest Hits has a title that speaks for itself, as it is filled with the best known songs of Keith Green such as “You Put This Love in My Heart,” “Oh, Lord You’re Beautiful” and “There Is a Redeemer.” There is also a previously unreleased studio track “Your Love Came Over Me” and a live version of “He’ll Take Care of the Rest.” Within the next two years the Legacy Project expects to release additional material such as an updated version of the biography “No Compromise,” more new music and, possibly a motion picture on the life of Keith Green.
