The liner blurb discusses the intimate relationship with God possible for a worshipping heart, and adds: “then our entire lives become an offering whether we sing, dance, paint, heal the sick, feed the hungry, befriend the marginalized or take out the trash.” Now THAT is a worship perspective I can get excited about! And it is from this place of truth that Andy Park brings “Unshakable,” a strong collection of eleven original worship songs.
Park brings his thirty years of loving and serving God to the table, joined by producer extraordinaire Nathan Nockels; that’s a substantial package of worship wisdom between them. “Unshakable” reaps the benefits you would expect from such a rich collaboration. These songs are rock solid in their construction and their execution. They’re not edgy or experimental, but fit more along the lines of the Integrity format: straightforward and Sunday-morning ready. So if you prefer, say, David Crowder’s sonic wanderings or Leeland’s ambient sound, you might not completely enjoy Andy Park’s “Unshakable.” But if you are more interested in lifting praises heavenward than in the groove in which you lift them, get a hold of “Unshakable” and prepare for some solid worship.
The bouncy title track opens the project, a pop-rocker declaration of faith in the Lord’s unchanging character. “Revive Us Again” offers up lush strings, and the hearty “Savior of the World” is particularly engaging with its big choir sound. The programming nuances of the keyboard-driven “Come Reign” only add to its melodic pleasures. But it is the anthemic, fervent “You Are God” that really gets you on your feet. This deeply passionate track is stadium-ready, and again its big choir sound really adds to the excitement.
That high-energy track is followed by another standout, “Precious Pearl,” opening with quiet congas before moving into lustrous worship, rich with percussive nuances. “Worthy of All My Love” is another melodic and moving song, and I enjoyed the hooky chorus of “To Give My Life Away.” “Unshakable” closes out with an upbeat electric blessing, “May the Lord Bless You,” and you walk away from your listening experience uplifted and encouraged. If it’s straightforward, sincere worship you want without all the extra bells and whistles, pick up “Unshakable.”
