Wilderness of Tekoa’s “The Skies Pale in Comparison” is the record to give to your friends who complain that Christian music all sounds the same.
When they say there's no beats, play "Asleep" for them and dare them to hold on through the swinging twists and turns of Sean Scott's drums or frontman Nic DiPace's supremely precise vocals. Or turn to "The Least of These" and challenge them to stay still in spite of Scott's thundering percussion, to remain unmoved by DiPace's passionate vocals on the tender yet powerful "Teach Me to Break."
Wilderness of Tekoa's alt rock music is fantastically atmospheric, deeply engaging and very much out of the Christian music box. Guitarist extraordinaire Ryan Antolino and programmer Philip Pattison add an epic feel to the luminous lyrics of DiPace and Scott, and bassist Lonnie Lawson keeps it all tied down tight. Another standout track is "Your Place in the Ground," a moody and mesmerizing song that highlights DiPace's stirring vocals. Northern Records has found a band with imaginative arrangements, muscular instrumentals, and intelligent perspective. Look for them as they tour this summer and "The Skies Pale in Comparison" hits the streets in early fall. Pick up an extra copy for your friend.
