The high retail positioning only reflects the album’s CBA release following a Feb. 20 national debut. Group 1 Crew released at general market retail on Feb. 27. The project additionally debuted this week in the Top 10 on the Christian digital album chart and follows the strong November, 2006 launch of its acclaimed digital EP at all major digital music outlets.
Already heralded as a breakout act of 2007, media embraced Group 1 Crew since receiving advance music last December. In addition to several spotlights from CCM magazine, upcoming media coverage includes an April cover story in Brio & Beyond, a band spotlight in Relevant magazine’s July/August issue and a March feature on CBN.com, among others. Radio has also embraced Group 1 Crew, as the second single from the CD, “Love Is A Beautiful Thing,” is currently climbing in the Top 25 amidst Radio & Records’ CHR chart. The song will go for adds at CCM AC radio on March 23.
Group 1 Crew recently completed a street week tour promoting the new album throughout the Midwest and Eastern US. During the run, the group performed at public schools and churches, including a youth event at T.D. Jakes’ The Potter’s House, and was further featured on Nashville’s FOX “Tennessee Mornings” show, LeSea Broadcasting’s Harvest Show and a pre-taped performance for Daystar TV’s “Celebration.” Group 1 Crew is also set to join Superchic[k]’s “Generation Rising Tour” this spring.
Group 1 Crew was founded when group visionary and veteran emcee, Manwell, formed a Bible study for local musicians three years ago and united with Pablo and Blanca. The eclectic trio pieced together their diverse styles and created an original sound, fusing their assorted influences ranging from Beethoven to The Black Eyed Peas.
