Lisa Weyerhaeuser: Life on Earth

A pastor's wife, counselor, speaker and mother of three young boys, it's hard to figure how she might have carved out time to make music, but "Life on Earth" is her fourth solo recording. To further mystify, she wrote 11 of the album's 12 songs, covering Larry Norman's "UFO" as the project closer. She brings a very comforting presence to her music, possibly the fruit of her counselor's heart. But if limited to one adjective to describe the tone her music, it would have to be "gentle."

Most have an easy pop sound, some even qualifying as "happy little ditties" (Oh For a Day"), and I mean that as a compliment. Whose life couldn't use a happy little ditty? Her vocals are soft and at times, deeply worshipful ("Seek and Find"). The songs are rich with spiritual observations (the moving "The Compass," recognizing the constant Presence so central to our lives) and gratitude ("How Deep The Well," celebrating our intimacy with God). A standout track is the pop-rocker "Politically Correct" with its bluegrass feel and its wry commentary on, yup, you guessed it, the virus of political correctness. Her quiet rendition of Norman's "UFO" closes this warm project out perfectly.

"Life on Earth" will be a bit too mellow for some, but for others it will hit the spot. Visit Lisa Weyerhaeuser's website for more info.
