Starfield's new "Beauty in the Broken" promises sonic delights and worship music that leads directly to the throne. Think of it as Starfield's gift to the people of God.
When Starfield's self-titled first album made the reviewer's rounds, you might say there was a certain amount of ho hum (present writer excluded, ahem), even though the project met with enthusiastic response from the public. Single "Filled With Your Glory"<?b> even made it into the top 500 CCLI chart. Sparrow Record's "Beauty in the Broken," out this spring, should find the naysayers singing a different tune. With these catchy, energetic, and sonically immaculate tunes, Starfield draws you easily into their web of worship.
Writers Tim and Jon Neufeld are pumping out their passion for God and His church in guitar-driven worship songs that promise to reach the hearts of many. Opener "My Generation" lays out their burning desire to get through:
How do we feel? How do we feel?/ My generation is aching for real/ Dying for love, crying for truth/ My generation is aching for You.
The quartet's love for the people of God, actually the church of God, is a refreshing and encouraging find in a young band. Their pure desire to lead the church into worship comes across powerfully in these songs, notably the richly layered "Son of God," breezy "Captivate" (vocals dead on), and a cranked up and thoroughly joyous fresh take on "How Great Thou Art." Closer "Shipwreck" resonates with deeper truths and the delicate arrangement only drives them further into your spirit. Beauty in the Broken will win over every cynic and bless them in the process.
